Ilocos, Philippines

ILOCOS, you are so rich in history. You are a place where remnants of the past are still evident yet you have used it to create your unique contemporary existence.

Pagudpud, is the northernmost tip of Luzon and is well recognised for its beautiful white sand beaches.

The trip to Pagudpud took us 12 hours because we had a stopover at Vigan, Ilocos Sur and ate at Café Leona.

We tried Tina’s Empanada in Vigan, but I can’t really say that it’s the best because it’s the only one I’ve tried there… I honestly like how crunchy it is but I find the Vigan Empanadas sold here in Pampanga tastier. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Places to see along the way to Pagudpud or from Pagudpud:

BURGOS WIND FARM

KAPURPURAWAN WHITE ROCK FORMATION

We went here just before sunrise and I swear it was so beautiful! Located before the Burgos Wind Farm if you’re coming from Ilocos, Sur.

CAPE OF BOJEADOR LIGHTHOUSE

This lighthouse was made during the Spanish era, and is considered a cultural heritage.

PLACES TO VISIT IN PAGUDPUD

SAUD BEACH is considered as a premier beach in Pagudpud

I love how the beach was so calm when we visited, the water was so clear and it was perfect! (Note that the beach here suddenly gets deep.)

BLUE LAGOON

This beach has this bluish tint that make it picturesque. It does not suddenly gets deep like Saud Beach.

I got stung here by a small jellyfish but it wasn’t that painful.

There are lots of accommodations here including Hannah’s, I think that’s the biggest and most popular resort in Pagudpud and it also has the most lovely and bluish part of the beach.

There are also a lot of homestays near this area.

PATAPAT VIADUCT

BANTAY ABOT CAVE

You’ll see this cave from afar when you go to the Blue Lagoon area. If you plan to go and see the cave up close be aware that there would be a stair and some rocky areas you’ll have to cross.

AGUA GRANDE

Agua Grande is known for its eco-friendly and non carbon producing mini-hydro electric power plant. (http://www.pagudpud-ilocos.com/agua-grande.html)

You can relax here or have a picnic and just enjoy the view.

PARAISO NI ANTON

OTHER PLACES IN ILOCOS YOU CAN VISIT ALONG THE WAY:

PAOAY CHURCH

PAOAY SAND DUNES, PAOAY LAKE, MALACAÑANG OF THE NORTH, PAOAY CATHEDRAL, AND SOME MUSEUMS.

What I loved most in Pagudpud is its authentic Island kind of life, it’s so laidback, so simple, no signal, the abundance of seaweeds, and it’s natural wonders.
